Novel protein is any protein source that is not commonly consumed by dogs and cats. It is basically any protein that you don't often find in the food you see in big box stores.

This often includes duck, venison, emu, ostrich, rabbit, alligator, kangaroo, bison, insects, quail, pheasant, plant protein, most fish, boar, bison and water buffalo. Depending on who you ask it can include turkey and lamb too.

They have a high bioavailability and digestibility which means they are absorbed and utilized in your pets body easier than common/traditional protein. This makes it a perfect choice for sensitive tummies

And because they don't come from a mass production system they are often raised without antibiotics and pesticides, which means the meat is cleaner and higher quality than traditional protein. .This is often why its also more digestible and in my experience more delicious to our pets.
